Wildflower Hike - Frozen Lake

The trek along Sourdough Ridge out to Frozen Lake not only offers great views of The Mountain and Yakima Park below but also provides a surprisingly good wildflower experience. Considered a relatively easy hike it begins at Sunrise, the primary visitor center on the north side of the Park. Some time will be needed for acclimation since it starts at 6400' elevation. Total distance is approximately 3.0 miles RT with less than 500' of elevation gain. Check conditions before setting out.

Trailhead Note: The trailhead is found on the north side of the Sunrise parking area. Sunrise is approximately 15.5 miles from the White River entrance off of SR 410. Seasonal closure is at the White River campgroud road, approximately 5.5 miles from 410. The road often does not open until July. It is always important to check the status of the road in planning hikes originating from Sunrise. Although the parking lot is large and overflow parking is usually accomodated the quality of this hike is enhanced by an early start when the lot is virtually empty; and then returning in the afternoon and wondering "where did everyone come from."
