Avalanche Lily
aka White Avalanche Lily. Often found in large fields appearing like a snowfield, or “avalanche”, thus the common name. The stem can reach 6″ – 10″ (15 – 25 cm) tall and supports up to three flowers (although as many as ten have been reported) and has a pair of lance-shaped leaves. The flowers have six extraordinary transluscent petals which sweep back to display long yellow anthers and a cream-colored stigma. Common in subalpine meadows, forest openings between 5,000′ – 6,500′ elevation.
