Campanula rotundifolia

Common Harebell

Common Harebell
aka Bluebells-of-Scotland, Scots Bluebells. Yes, it is the same “Bluebell” so loved in Scotland, Switzerland, Tyrol, but called “Harebell” in England, an allusion to the hair-thin stems from which the bells depend. The broad bell-shaped purplish-blue flowers are quite large to 1″ (2 – 3 cm). The five petals flare out making the tube wider. On stems ranging from 4″ – 14″ the bells nod to protect their nectar and pollen from the rain. One of the special flowers of the Park, it is found in open places, talus slopes, crevices to 6,500′ elevation.
