Tiarella unifoliata and T. trifoliata

Foamflower

aka Coolwort, Sugar Scoop, Three-leaf (or cut-leaved) Foamflower. The prinicpal difference in the two varieties is the cut of their leaves; T. unifoliata has simple 3 – 5 lobed maple-leaf like leaves wheres T. trifoliata has deeply cut clearly three lobed leaves. The flowers are extremely delicate and are a mere 1/8″ – 1/4″ (2 – 4mm) branching off stalks that are 1/2 – 1 1/2′ tall. Very common in moist forest at lower elevations (the trifoliata can reach higher elevations to 5,500 ft.)
