Arabis eschscholtziana

Hairy Rockcress

Hairy Rockcress
aka Arabis hirsuta, Pacific Coast Rockcress. The family was formerly named Cruciferae in reference to the crosslike formation of the four petals. This is a large family and unfortunately the photos here do not present enough detail for an accurate identification. However, the white flower would typically have four petals and six stamens as shown here. Stems grow to 3′ (1 m) in height with unstalked lance-shaped leaves which clasp the stem also descernable in the trail view. Not common, found in open gravelly from 2,500′ – 5,000′ elevation.
