Polemonium pulcherrimum

Low Jacob's Ladder

Low Jacob's Ladder
aka Showy Jacob’s Ladder, Showy Polemonium. Unfortuanately the common names of “Showy” and “Low” Jacob’s Ladder are used interchangeably for P. californicum and P. pulcherrimum (so much for common names!). This species clearly justifies having an exclusive distinctive name – how about Exquisite Jacob’s Ladder! This truly unbelievably beautiful plant is much more like Elegant Jacob’s Ladder (P. elegans) than P. californicum, however the leaflets tend not to overlap. Found in rocky areas between 5,000′ to 6,500′ elevation, occasionally higher the case here.

Family:

Polemoniaceae - PHLOX FAMILY

Genus:

Polemonium derived from Greek polemos 'war'
