Luetkea pectinata

Partridge Foot

Partridge Foot
aka Lutkea, Creeping Spirea, Mountain Spirea, Spiraea pectinata. The common name refers to the leaves which resemble a footprint of a partridge or ptarmigan. The evergreen sub-shrub creates dense mats. Captivating for their size the tiny white flowers are quite showy. Only about 1/4 ” (5 mm) they form tight clusters atop stems rising 2 – 6″. Yellow centers with many reproductive parts provide further accent which makes the overall cluster appear creame colored. Very common in dry measdows from 6,000′ to 8,500′ elevation.
