Pyrola asarifola

Pink Wintergreen

aka Large Wintergreen, Liverleaf Wintergreen, Pink Pyrola. The largest of the wintergreens with stems 12″ – 16″ (30 -40 cm) high with 10 -24 waxy pink flowers. The style extends below the five petals and is prominent and curved. The common name refers to the leaves wintering over so last year’s leaves are also present with the new growth. There are two subspecies in the Park, asarifolia and bracteata. Usually found in moist forests below 4,000′ elevation.
