Scarlet Paintbrush
aka Common Red Paintbrush. Taller than Magenta Paintbrush growing to as much as 2.5′ (80 cm) tall with leaves which are more narrow, sharp-pointed and lance-shaped. The scarlet colored ovate bracts have a pair of small, sharp teeth near the tip. The greenish tubular flowers are mostly concealed by the bracts. Common in meadows, open woods, and roadsides usually above 5,000′ elevation but may be found at lower elevations.
