Viola macloskeyi ssp. pallens

Small White Violet

Small White Violet
aka Macloskey Violet. Considered rare in the Park growing in wet areas so can be confused with the Marsh Violet. A small plant usually not more than 4″ tall with round or kidney-shaped leaves. The stark white flowers , usually one per stem, have five petals; the two uppers curve back while the lower ones have dark purple veins. A pleasure to find although it this case swarming mosquitoes made it a short visit. Usually found at middle elevations in bogs and swamps. (note: this could be a misidentification)
