Epilopium clavatum

Talus Willow-herb

Talus Willow-herb
aka Epilobium alpinum var. albiflorum, Club-pod Willow-herb. Willow-herbs poise challenges for identification and this species is similar to the Alpine Willow-herb, E. anagallidifolium, which is found in similar habitat. E. clavatum is more likely found on the east side of the Park, the case here. Stems can rise to 8″ (20 cm) with elliptical to ovate leaves 1/2″ – 1″ long. The handsome rose colored flowers have four notched petals each about 1/4″ long. Usually found on talus slopes above 5,000′ elevation.
