aka Bald-hip Rose, Dwarf Woodland Rose, Wood’s Rose, Wild Rose. Beautiful flowers about 1.0″ (2 cm) wide have five pink to dark rose petals surrounding a cluster of of yellow stamens and pistils. The plant height is seldom above 4′ and has prickles along its stems. The leaves have 5 or 7 oval to ellipital leaflets which are up to 2″ long and 1″ wide. The leaflets have serrated edges (margins) and are “double toothed” (see detail in photo). Usually found in dry woods and slopes to 5,000′ elevation.
