aka Piggyback Plant. Named after two legendary northwest botanical exploers, both were English physicians. The common name refers to the new leaf sprouts that start at the base of old leaf blades. These small buds are called ‘daughter’ plants. The brownish-purple flowers are about 1/2″ (6 – 10 mm) long with four flared petals and three protruding curved stamens creating an alien look. Stems can grow to 2 1/2′ tall. Also, a popular house plant. Common in moist areas, woods, streambanks to 4,000′ elevation.
